AT&T, Facebook mashup for 'HTC First'

Mark Zuckerberg has announced, today, the Facebook phone. The phone? An HTC; the “HTC First” to be exact. The operating system? Android. They call the program “Facebook Home.”

The first Android device with complete Facebook integration? Let’s think about it for a second… There have been a few different phones with the iconic Facebook logo for a button to post a status. These phones include the HTC Salsa and HTC ChaCha, also known as the Status.

I think the idea is really cool, but it seems like a ploy on AT&T’s part, to get more customers. Think about their recent commercials; hilarious and witty, right? But with T-Mobile releasing their service as “no contract” and Verizon still being the leader in cell phone technology and service, I think it’s their last resort.

The only thing I don’t like about this idea: Facebook Home is not integrated with iOS. Zuckerberg has been quoted about this issue, stating, “Apple is a very controlled ecosystem … Fundamentally, Android is a more open system.” In short, “It would have to be a complete 180,” for the new Facebook Home program.

I think it’s a risk for Facebook, as a company, to follow through with this phone and it’s sales. But clearly, risks are their fort√©. I mean, come on, they come in 4 different colors! That’s something Apple doesn’t have, right?
